Update 01/11/07
Miles in his capacity as the Regional Co-ordinator
(UK and Ireland) for the Web Analytics Association held the
UK's first conference. Jim Sterne was over for Halloween and
he kindly agreed to give us an update of the eMetrics summit
from Stockholm and Washington DC. Lots of attendees including
Goldman Sachs, Marks and Spencer, The Guardian Media Group,
Boden, Applied Insights, CXFocus, Reed and many more.
In 2008 we are going to be holding more
events both solely for the milesBENNETT brand and also for the
WAA. Should your firm wish to sponsor an event or advertise
your products then do get in touch with us via our contact page
and we'll be in touch.
Update 12/10/07
Following a very interesting breakfast meeting
with Ragtime and my contact there, Richard Walker, about social
networking. There was a very interesting article that David
Crow from The Business magazine wrote about the power of social
networking when it comes to shopping. Shoppers now have online
websites which are able to review goods via pictures rather
than text links - click on the links below to read David's article
and my thoughts too.

Update 11/10/07
| Lots of interesting things
to update you on.
milesBENNETT is proud to have Dan O'Sullivan
representing them at the Internet Marketing Conference
in Stockholm. He is an experienced speaker having spoken
at both eMetrics in London 2007 and with Neil Mason at
Ad:tech more recently. He will be speaking about data
visualisation and how best to get management to listen
to what the website and its customers are saying - easily..... |

|
I've also been working hard on getting
my jobs blog on the go. This is a free service
for registered users - you can receive the latest jobs
via your chosen RSS reader. Recruitment companies, get
in touch via our contact us form and lets see how we
can help you get the right person for that job.
This will be launched very soon so keep
watching!
|
| I've recently attended a breakfast meeting organised by
Richard Walker of Ragtime.
He had two very interesting speakers Michael Chin of KickApps
and Ankur Shah or d.sruptive. The talk was about the benefits
of social networking (and some of the pitfalls). I'll be
writing more about this in the near future. |
|
|
Ashley Friedlein (of eConsultancy
fame) also hosted a summer party (seems like an age ago
now) at his offices in London. It was a very interesting
time as I got time to catch up with some old colleagues
that I hadn't seen in years. For example Tejal Patel (now
working at Three) but met her when we were both at Abbey.
Also Mark Patron from Redeye
who is a great guy and, his firm hosts some great seminars
(Jim Sterne is talking
at one of the seminars at the end of this month). |
Update 13/08/07
 |
milesBENNETT has set up
a Google group and is inviting people to join it. The aim
of the group is to share ideas, pass comments on new technology,
discuss new ideas on web analytics. |
|

Update 10/07/07
| milesBENNETT
is taking part in the beta testing of a usability programme
called ClickTale.
This is a programme which allows me to view where people
are clicking and where they are moving their mouse.
|
|
Analysis of this can
determine many things. Do I have enough information on
the page or too much? Can people find what they are looking
for? What text do customers think are clickable? Should
all images be clickable?
Once the study is completed then I'll
write about it an post something in my articles
section. |
Update 04/07/07
Lunch with Bertie Stevenson (formally Head
of New Business Development for web analytics provider RedEye
- Customer Behavioural Analysis). Now, Director of Sales
for Global Reviews today.
In the "space"
of competitor analysis - there is a lot to offer potential
customers. There is Hitwise, MAPA, eBenchmarkers and now
the new player Global Reviews. All have a different take
on how they collect data and what that data tells the
customer about their site.
There will shortly be an article on "Competitor
Intelligence / Customer Experience" posted on
the milesBENNETT articles section
talking about competitor intelligence. If anyone has anything
to comment (if there is anyone wanting to comment on competitor
analysis then please go to the contact
us page and fill in your comments).
Am really interested in hearing from those that regularly
use Hitwise, MAPA, eBenchmarkers and Global Reviews. |
|
Update 03/07/07
 |
milesBENNETT
is now receiving more called about needs for internet professionals
- Web Analytics Consultants, SEO specialists, prototypers
and so on. Now I personally cannot do all the work and am
now working alongside other contractors in sharing the workload.
|
Feel like you are up
for the challenge of working for yourself and working
alongside other professionals and a brand to support you?
If you think that you have the skills
milesBENNETT is looking for then feel free to
drop us an email and we can see whether we have some roles
available for you. |

Update 02/07/07
I've now finally managed to update the contact
us page. Go and have a look - I do love to get emails :-)
Update 28/06/07
Well I've been rather lax in my updates
to this page. However, firstly I want to apologise to Ashley
Friedlien and Peter Abraham of eConsultancy
for letting them down at the recent Web Analytics roundtable.
I simply could not get away from work (I'm sure you all know
what that is like). Anyway, not really an excuse and hope I
get invited to the next one as I've certainly got lots to say.
I've been working closely with WebTrends
and am now realising what a fantastic tool this is. I'm not
putting down any of the other solutions but, this really does
have something!! The interface allows a non-technical user to
get the information they want, the additional free function
such as SmartView, SmartReports and the Crystal Xcelcius plugins
show that they have really thought about what the customer wants.
I will be writing about WebTrends
OnDemand version 8.0 very shortly. However, if you're looking
for a solution (and no I'm not on commission) - then have a
chat with Hugh Kimber. I've given him an email account with
milesBENNETT so not to jam his mailbox with too many
RFIs/RFPs - hugh at milesbennett.co.uk.
Also, much to the delight of my friend Avinash
- I've finally received a copy of his book - Web
Analytics, An Hour A Day. My partner was very impressed
and said "I know him!" (see Avinash you made and impression
on her). I look forward to doing a review of this book soon.
I also got Jason Burby's and Shane Atchison's book on Actionable
WebAnalytics.
Just to show what a nice guy Avinash realy
is - he's donating all profits to two of his favourite charities
- The Smile Train and
Doctors without
borders.
Update 12/05/07
EPIC
Well I've been looking for this video for
some time and only just found it!!! So I wanted to share it
with my readers. The video is called EPIC 2015 and it shows
how far the internet companies could go with social networking,
analytics, search, and news snippets.
It is very George
Orwell"ish" - so for those of you that read 1984
- come and see the potential 21st century equivalent. If you
work for the New York Times
- run now! (only kidding).
As with anything to do with the internet
"anything is possisble".
I want to see what is
possible with social networking, blogging, consumer power and
the internet.
SKINKERS
I've also updated the articles pages with
numerous other bits and bobs which I've been working on. Including
a profile of Skinkers.
I want to see how
technology, security, Microsoft Vista and the internet are merging
together with new technology.
Update 06/04/07
I've uploaded a PDF version of the presentation
I gave at eMetrics. It shows a view of how customer relationships
with banks have changed due to demand and I'll also be uploading
a video to show the use of new technologies in ebanking.
milesBENNETT - eMetrics
Web Analytics and Management Information in Financial Services
I've also uploaded the vlogs that Jim
Sterne did before, during and after the eMetrics summit.
Go to the articles section to see
more.
Update 05/04/07
Just to let keep you updated. I've did a
small contract with Pink Home Loans (part of the Skipton Building
Society) on behalf of their design agency Space01.
I'm now contracting with Barclays bank and
helping them look at measurement, segmentation and conversion
rates.
eMetrics 2007 London (seems like a month
ago now). Click on the blog link
to read my eMetrics summary.
Update 22/03/07
I've added another article to the site -
Customer Acquisition
and Retention. Let me know what you think - miles@milesbennett.co.uk.
Update 17/03/07
I've recently been in touch with an organisation
called Skinkers who provide a unique push communication service.
Have a look at Skinkers
website for further details.
Update 16/03/07
I will shortly
be sending my eMetrics presentation over to Jim Sterne. However,
wanted to let you all know that I'll be uploading a copy of
the presentation to this site shortly after the London event
(don't want you to get a preview just yet).
There are also ongoing conversations with
the CEO of a major web analytics firm (who I won't identify
at the moment to maintain suspense) and he's agreed to be interviewed
by me on the future of web analytics vendor solutions.
Update 15/03/07
It must be said that RedEye
host some fantastic seminars.
I've been going to them for years and made some good friends
and great contacts there.
Today it was Steve Johnston's, Google
Consultant, turn. He was giving a audience (who's companies
ranged from customised greeting card makers - MoonPig to a Fertility
Clinic) on how to get a better ranking on Google, and not be
penalised for making silly mistakes. He has also just published
an ebook on "50
ways to make Google love your website" - well worth
a read.
We've just launched a new section to the
site - "Interviews" (where
we will be interviewing some very interesting people - web analytics
practioners, vendors, web strategists and who knows maybe a
celebrity or two...
Update 06/03/07
Just come back from a very successful eConsultancy
Digital Cream event - held at a very grand hotel near Covent
Garden, London. Ashley and his team did a fantastic job in organising
the event and getting some of the industry experts together.
I was given the role of a panelist in the
web analytics stream. I was there to help prompt questions,
highlight the benefits of good analytics and getting managment
buy-in. Dan O'Sullivan from Boden was there (he is also speaking
at the eMetrics summit at the end of the month).
Neil Mason (Applied Insights) and Pat Gildea
(nPower) gave some great presentations. As did the vendors themselves
- Mark Wood and Simon Gibbard from Visual Scienes showed us
the real power of enterprise based web analytics tools.
Update 02/02/07
I've put up my first article on web analytics
in the financial services sector. It gives a high level overview
of what is measurable. This is the base article from which I'll
be writing about fraud, phishing, online banking measurement,
executive dashboards, enterprise analytic solutions and much
more.
Web
Analytics in Financial Services
Update 22/01/07
I am currently researching financial services'
use of web analytics and management information. This includes
the tools that are used (whether in-house bespoke or third-party),
presentation methods, audiences, actions and timescales, e.g.
what insight have brought about a change and how quick is the
business to react.
If you are interested in being interviewed,
would like to participate in the study in another manner or
would like to see the eventual results. Then please get in touch
with me via miles @ milesbennett.co.uk
