This is the video that I showed at the end
of my eMetrics presentation - (I focused on the Egg Credit Card
element of the presentation). However, if you watch the whole
presentation you can see how well new technologies can help
push targeted information to subscribers. So those that are
looking (and have registered) for cheap flights to "anywhere"
can have that information delivered to them via a non-email
method and in real time (not relying on ultra-fast email servers.)
The only problem is that it is not web based
i.e. via a Internet Plugin or a RSS feed. You have to install
a programme on your PC. Which may or may not make customers
feel slightly concerned. If we target customers based on cookie-tracking
then the customers whilst we tell them about it via privacy
statement, they are not really involved in the initial setting
up stages. This may affect the consumer's willingness to use
Skinkers technology.
However, from a financial services point
of view Skinkers demonstrates how you can intergrate technology
and usability - which means that the customer can understand
their money.
Possibilities include:
- Segmentation
of expenditure into groupings i.e. food, clothing, entertainment
- Transferring of money with the simple
click of a mouse
- Face-to-Face online help
- Bill Payment Wizard (a selection of utility
company, council tax details so you can pay your bills quickly
via ebanking)
One problem. We already have all these in
ebanking. Lloyds TSB have a drop down option of "account
from", "account to" and "value" then
click "transfer". What could be simplier than that?
.

TSB transfer option, shown immediately on login to ebanking
The difference between what we already experience
and what is going to be available in two to five years time
- is security and the interface. Vista is bringing a new synergy
between the operating system and the internet. People are now
used to the automatic updates and the perceived security that
XP brought with those updates (even though more and more people
are aware of the need for additional security).
I feel that Skinkers demonstrates what is
already possible with existing technology. The question is will
consumers feel this is better than what is already available?
